IAP Project Teams Receive Outstanding Safety Awards

Cape Canaveral, FL – IAP Worldwide Services, Inc. awarded 17 projects globally with the Mission Zero Safety Leadership Award for Outstanding Safety Performance and demonstration of Safety Leadership. The projects, which ranged from providing operational to combat zone support, maintained an injury-free record throughout 2011 as they conducted Safety and Health programs focused on injury prevention.

IAP President Spence Wickham noted the importance of the awards: “Protecting the health and safety of our employees and the environment is a core and uncompromising value of our Company, and I’m proud of each one of these projects for their dedication to safety and achieving this milestone.”

The Mission Zero Safety Leadership Award project team honorees are:  MacDill Air Force Base Operations Support Services; Marine Corp Maintenance Contract (MCMC) at Blount Island; Patuxent River Naval Station Base Operations Support; Global Health Support Initiative/USAID; Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Geological Survey Biological Resource Division Eastern Region; G3 Systems Office and Integration Osprey Quay; Eagle Flag; Global Emergency Services; Manas AB (Services, Installation Support, Warehouse Operations), NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) Air Traffic Management, and special projects.

Projects such as those at Osprey Quay, England, MacDill AFB and Blount Island, Fla., regularly face potential electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards. The NAMSA Air Traffic Management project, based at the Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan, contends with incoming rockets on a weekly basis.

Even when confronted with an emergency the IAP teams focus on keeping safety the No. 1 priority so they can avoid injury. The Eagle Flag group, for example, late last August, quickly and safely, broke down and stored multiple tents, generators and air conditioning that had been used at a U.S. Air Force flag-level exercise at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, as Hurricane Irene loomed in the Atlantic. “We have a safety meeting before we go out and do anything. Nothing’s so urgent that it’s worth risking an injury,” said Site Manager Philip Julia.

IAP’s commitment to Environmental Safety &Health (ES&H) excellence has resulted in the company earning the National Safety Council Operational Excellence Achievement Award for the past six years. The prestigious award is presented to companies with lost workday case rates in the top echelon of their industry.
