Employee Provides Help for Military Heroes

Cape Canaveral, FL — An IAP Worldwide Services employee who was touched by the plight of wounded servicemen and women returning home to England from Afghanistan has raised almost $3,000 for the British charity Help for Heroes.

Scott Price is a Project Manager in IAP’s United Kingdom office, working on various construction tasks at Camp Bastion, the main British military base in Afghanistan. Three years ago, IAP built the 38,000 square foot pre-fabricated Medical Treatment Facility at Camp Bastion and continues to support that project and other military hospitals in the Middle East.

“As a company, IAP has been, and remains, very much involved in the construction, extension, and improvements to the Military Hospital in Bastion and consequently I have become all too aware of the human cost of the conflict in Afghanistan and the need to help our wounded troops in any way possible,” says Price.

He decided to stage an indoor “Gym Triathlon” during his recent three-month deployment at Camp Bastion, running, rowing and biking a total of 1 million meters, or just over 621 miles, in exchange for donations through the Heroes website fundraising portal. Using equipment inside the base exercise facility, Scott rode 466 miles on a stationary bike, rowed 93 miles on a rowing machine and ran 62 miles on a treadmill, splitting the activities up over a total of 50 hours.

“We’re all very proud of him and absolutely in awe of his achievement,” says Paul Holt, IAP’s Director of Business Development in the United Kingdom and Europe. “The company’s fully supported him and it’s something as an individual that he took on.”

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 and awards numerous grants to organizations that help Britain’s wounded soldiers, including rehabilitation facilities and family respite centers.
